…And what a Merry Christmas it’s been!
With two of the more highly anticipated mixtapes of the season pushed back–Lupe’s Friend of The People and Jay Elect’s Act II–for anxious fans it was almost impossible to redeem the day…ALMOST.
Then after realizing that new J*Davey was coming and checking my Twitter periodically after 12 PT (3am EST) for a link (along with Phonte Coleman it turns out)–and getting nothing, I just fell asleep before the night could get any more anti-climactic.
Thankfully, Boudoir Synema more than makes up for it. It’s part 1 of a 3-part series of The Great Mistapes, and although 24 minutes long, boy does it quench the drought since their Beauty in Distortion/Land of The Lost.
EARGASMIC.
UGH!
Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, J. Cole and Mos Def over Hi-Tek production is a dream so many backpackers never knew they had. Funny how one of the dopest tracks of 2009 drops with just a week left in the calendar year.
This track is renegade in so many ways.
“Just Begun” off Reflection Eternal’s upcoming Revolutions Per Minute

Everything Georgia Anne Muldrow touches is so poetic, spirited and soulful.
Below is the Mos Def enhanced version of “Roses” off of his Grammy nominated The Ecstatic, and one of my favs off of her Olesi|Fragments of An Earth.

Politics | The Foreign Exchange’s Pre-Grammy Acceptance Speech Video
Just when the Flor Rida and Pleasure P nods make you lose all hope in the GRAMMY committee, the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category comes out of nowhere and redeems the integrity of the entire shabang. Honestly, it looks as if this one’s going to be a battle between Foreign Exchange’s “Daykeeper” and Eric Roberson’s “A Tale of Two”–both very deserving records from two extraordinarily special acts.
I’ve been waiting for a great way to honor FE since the nominations were announced, and this video is a great walk through their unique journey….and may just make you want to root for these guys a little bit more.
Who would you give it to?
Foreign Exchange – “Daykeeper”
Eric Roberson – “A Tale of Two”
Damn shame.
Before I Self Destruct should really be signaling 50’s return to prominence, but his clownish ways have only alienated the fans to the point where we don’t even want to be bothered with him anymore.
For what it’s worth–great song, great video. Honestly, Before I Self Destruct is pure hotness–too bad the world may never find that out…

The time has come for Ms. Adu’s triumphant return. Soldier of Love, Maxwell’s Summers’, and D’Angelo’s James River (*cough*..we’ll see) all in one year? I’m not sure we’re ready.
“Soldier of Love” is stunning.
Is it just me, or don’t these guys basically share the same core fanbase? Nevertheless, last week as some opinionated stans ran rabid over at the OKPlayer messageboards on the thread “Lupe Fiasco vs Jay Electronica PTII,” Lupe decided to drop a few bars and shut. it. down. (And when I say “it,” I mean Hip-Hop).
Coexist,
the devils in the dealer, the poltergiest is in the pokerchips,
Game changer, I practice Iron Swan Song, Tiger Palm & Cobra Fist,
Go by many slang name’s and sobriquets,
Asking me how many lines is in my mind is like asking how many fish can the ocean fit,
I set out to do the impossible like an open fist,
Achieve the unbelievable like throwing Open Pit,
The last line refers to flying saucers,
A rhyming Chaucer who came from District 9 but now he’s flying over it,
Battle Jay Elect? Who has the foolhardy audacity to utter this?
I look at him like a high minded brother from another and when we finally encounter with dual flows overdosed on over-the-counter’s its gone be like Mulder meets the Mothership,
Friend Of The People, Fuck the government…
I feel like one can’t grasp the gravity the situation without being a wholehearted fan of both of these guys, but as the internets wait on a reply from Jay Elect, I’m already sharpening my teeth for a collab. We know it’s coming…I mean, it HAS to come. *closes eyes and crosses fingers*
And for those who still aren’t quite sure
here’s his latest heater (which I hear is being released sometime this week(?)!!..)
“Exhibit C” – Jay Elect
Theophilus London gives me that..that Drake itch–you know, that superstar itch. Seeing him live a few months ago really sealed the deal, and I’ve been a loyalist ever since.
Needless to say I’ve been on my Theo something heavy lately, and the Clipse.. well, enough said.
“Late Night Operation” – Theophilus London
“Always Love You” – Theophilus London
“Counseling” feat. Nicole Hurst – Clipse
“I’m Good” feat. Pharrell – Clipse

Theophilus London

Really one of the tightest marketing concepts that I’ve seen yet. Just calling the number is an experience.. But, to save you the trouble–calling gets you NOWHERE. I’m interested in seeing how or even IF they drop the event details… Guess I should just hit the man up myself. Lord knows he drops his math on Twitter every other week.
For your listening pleasure, here’s his latest “Exhibit C” prod. by Just Blaze
“My b” guys… CMJ [and midterms :/] turned me out this past week. Got much to catch up on, but this one–I just couldn’t wait.
Chauffeur “the blazing lovechild of Sam Sparro, Theophilus London, Thomas Brenneck, Victor Axelrod & myself” [(c) Mark Ronson] did a couple of shows this week, the last at the Fader Fort (outside of which I stood in the pouring rain for over an hour, hoping that the Chauffeur set would start late enough for me to get in, only to eventually leave after seeing Theophilus London come out the back..but I’m not bitter).
The track was made to support the campaign of Mark Ronson’s Gucci sneaker, and the vinyl of “Soles Of Fire” will be given with each purchase. This looks pretty Limited Edition, but I’m guessing that this won’t be the last we hear from Chauffeur after this track blows up.
